Gum Contouring in Dubai
The appearance of the gum and its health are essential factors for having a beautiful smile, and while some people have too little gum (gum recession), some have a gummy smile (too much gum), which can cause an unattractive looking tooth and, in some cases, dental health issues. The solution for both problems can be solved with a procedure called “gum contouring.”
What is Gum Contouring?
Gum contouring is a procedure that fixes uneven, misshaped gums or the overgrowth of gums; a dentist carries it out and usually takes one visit to the office that is 1 or 2 hours long.
Overgrowth of Gum
In the case of the overgrowth of gum tissues, the gingivoplasty technique is used to sculpt the gum to even it out and reshape it to fit the general structure of the teeth and have a balanced and attractive smile. This procedure involves local anesthesia and laser and scalpel; the excess tissue is removed.
The opposite case, which is gum recession (or having too little gum), involves the addition of gum tissue. This is done by taking out a tissue from a suitable part in your mouth and securing the removed piece to the desired place in your mouth, which will help restore gum tissue and fill the gum’s exposed spots with the proper amount of tissue.
Is Gum Contouring Painful?
The gum contouring is done on patients by applying local anesthetics, and the numbing sensation may last for a few hours afterward. After the treatment, the amount of pain will depend on the amount of tissue removed, grafted, or placed in another spot. Every patient will be given pain-relieving medications prescribed by the dentist.
It is essential to follow your dentist’s advice on what to eat and drink after the treatment and stick to the instructions given on dental hygiene and routine afterward to prevent any additional pain or discomfort and sometimes to bleed.
How Much Time Do I Need to Recover?
The recovery process might take from a few days and up to a couple of weeks, and it might be necessary to limit your activities to the minimum the same day you undergo the treatment. The recovery will be aided by pain relievers and instructions to prevent any issues after the surgery.
