Tooth cavity is one of the most common dental conditions that impact almost everyone at some point or the other. The decay in our teeth is the primary cause behind teeth cavities, and while adhering to an appropriate oral health routine can minimize the impact of tooth decay, but one can even get their teeth fixed from a dentist.    Early detection of signs and symptoms of tooth decay can be beneficial because this way, we can avail appropriate dental treatment at the earliest. But what are these signs and symptoms of a tooth cavity? Continue reading as we find the answer to this question.

Signs and Symptoms of a Tooth Cavity

  • Increased Sensitivity Cold Or Hot

When tooth decay affects our teeth, the infiltration of our teeth does not stop until we get the appropriate treatment. This further exposes our dentin, which is well-known for its porous nature, ultimately leading to sensitivity issues.  Generally, in these cases, we can often feel that any of our teeth or tooth, in particular, have sensitivity issues while the others are fine. This becomes more evident when there is a surge in pain whenever we drink or eat something hot or cold. This is a ubiquitous sign of tooth cavity, and one must never ignore it.

  • Toothache

The other common symptom of a tooth cavity is a toothache. However, it is worth mentioning that in the early stages of tooth decay, we do not feel any toothache, making it a very challenging task to detect tooth decay initially.  But when we leave the affected tooth untreated for long, then it can result in causing some severe pain and distress in our teeth or in particular. This excruciation can increase with time, and we will be troubled by it at all times, be it drinking, eating, talking, or even when not doing a thing. • Pits On The Surface Of Our Teeth

As we already know, tooth cavity is caused by tooth decay which means that the entire structure of our teeth is no longer in the state that it was before. We can detect these cavities if we are cautious enough because they generally start from the outer surface of our tooth.  We recommend people check out the condition of their teeth by standing in front of a mirror on a regular basis. This will make it easier to detect pits and get the necessary treatment before it becomes even worse.

  • Unpleasant Taste And Bad Breath

Bacteria inside our mouth are responsible for tooth decay and, ultimately, tooth cavity. These tiny bacterias make their own colonies inside our teeth and feed on sugar from our food.  As they consume, they also need to excrete their waste which ultimately causes bad breath and unpleasant taste in our mouth. Therefore, it is highly recommended that when we notice we persistently have bad breath, we must not ignore these signs and get the necessary treatment at the earliest.

  • Discoloration

One of the most tangible signs of a tooth cavity and tooth decay is certainly the discoloration of our teeth. We can often find a stain or spot on our teeth which can be of any color, including brown, bright white, or even black.  These stains can not only be a sign of tooth cavity, but they will also restrict us from smiling as we did before, which can be a huge bummer for our self-confidence. However, these stains can be natural in some instances, but it is always better to be on the safer side and get it checked by a reliable dentist.

  • Holes In The Enamel

Of course, pits and discoloration can be a big issue, but these signs can still be treated. However, things can be very different when tooth decay has already caused extensive damage to the tooth leading to holes in the enamel. These holes are generally found in brown or black colors, and we must always keep an eye out for such symptoms. Whenever we find something like that in our teeth, it is important that we consult a dentist as early as possible as the damage is pervasive.

  • Swelling Or Bleeding Gums

When a cavity occurs near the gum line of our mouth, the infection can also cause some severe damage to the nearby tissue. This is because our gum tissues are very soft and sensitive, and the infection can spread more efficiently.  This will soon lead to swelling or bleeding in the gums, more so when we floss or brush our teeth. Additionally, this can also be a sign of gingivitis, so the best thing to do is run to the dentist’s clinic and get it checked.

Conclusion

Dental cavities can be very troubling as they will prevent us from going on with our daily lives as usual. Therefore, it is recommended that we keep an eye out for all the signs and symptoms mentioned above and avail of the appropriate treatment at the earliest.
